I am an artist from Richmond, Virginia working primarily in watercolor.
Process:
I begin by putting color washes down on my support. These initial washes are manipulated with the addition of water, salt, plastic wrapping, or paper. The resulting image is one that I can "converse" with and react to with my brush and sometimes watercolor crayons, slowly coming to the final image. I love this process because it asks me to examine the act of artistic consideration. Each decision I make as an artist has consequences to which I must react and with which I must engage artistically. The final decision is, of course, to declare the work finished.
Specifications of Current Work:
Most of my recent paintings have been painted on Aquabord rather than paper. This is a clay emulsion on board and is absorbant like paper. Each piece is mounted flush on a 2" thick birch or poplar wood cradle, and is varnished so that it can remain frameless.
The images are vibrant and abstract, though many suggest gardens or meadows.

Biography:
I hold a BA in Art and Art History from Rice University (1990), a certificate in Museum Studies from University of Manchester, England (1991) and a Masters in Art History from the University of Maryland (1994). A lifelong artist, I have only recently begun to show my work in earnest. My early career focused mainly on museum work, and I was able to spend time at The Amon Carter Museum in Fort Worth, The Terra Museum of American Art, and the Dallas Museum of Art before starting a family with my husband Jon. My three children are now old enough that I can spend more time with my paint, and their enthusiasm has encouraged me to show the resulting work.
